If you are thinking of performing a hair transplant, you are probably looking for specialized information on the different options available, depending on the density of your hair and the extent of the depopulated areas (bald). What Hair Graft is better? Today we will try to explain the main differences between the two techniques of capillary grafting, which are based on the way in which the follicular units are extracted: FUSS (Follicular unit transplant) and FUE (extraction of follicular units). Hair graft: FUSS technique This technique of capillary grafting is also known as the technique of the strip, since a strip is extracted from the back of the scalp. This method implies that we have to disguise the linear scar that will remain once we extract said strip from the donor area. In Dr. Panno’s operations, the scar is completely hidden. The follicular units will then be extracted and re-implanted in the depopulated areas (each contains between 1 and 4 hairs). Generally, the grafts extracted through this technique are less sensitive compared to the FUE technique. In addition, the time spent in surgery is less, as well as the economic cost involved.
Hair transplant: FUE technique
It is an outpatient procedure that benefits from a very short recovery time. It is performed under local tumescent progressive anesthesia and consists of two stages: In a first stage the follicular units are extracted. The second stage involves the implantation of follicular units with implanters.
The extraction of the follicles with this technique is relatively simple. It does not cause scars since important incisions are not made (there is no sewing, no strips, no cuts). Neither is postoperative required.
In summary, there is no better or worse method. Each of them has its pros and cons. The selection of the capillary graft technique should be done in conjunction with the hair surgeon.
