Hair transplant is a technique that is used to repopulate areas that suffer a large hair loss or that show alopecia or signs of it.
So that the result is as natural as possible, in hair transplant, the patient’s own hair is used (normally the follicles are extracted from the most populated area of the patient, that is, the nape of the neck), using local anesthesia.
One of the main benefits of this technique is that the patient is his own donor, therefore it does not cause rejection, so the hair is permanently grafted and the hair grows strong and healthy.
Before and after hair transplant
Preparing for a hair transplant is just as important as knowing how to care for yourself afterward. Don’t you know what pre and post-operative care to follow? We help you!
Pre-operative care
Before the hair transplant operation, the patient must take into account a series of cares, in order to have the expected results in this treatment. To begin with, the patient will not be able to consume alcohol, coffee or tobacco 24 hours before the intervention.
Second, it is essential that the user does not take any anti-inflammatory medication or aspirin or any other that can thin the blood during the 10 days prior to the operation.
It is also recommended to have a minimum length of hair before the hair transplant intervention, as this will facilitate the assessment to know if it is a good area for donation.
On the day of the operation, it is crucial that the scalp does not present any type of skin alteration (such as irritation or flaking).
The patient must go to the operating room with clean hair, fasting and with a companion, since it is not recommended that the latter drive after the intervention due to
possible drowsiness you may have after surgery or medication prescribed to the patient.
Post-operative care
After the operation, the patient must be more careful and treat the area in which the surgery was carried out well, and thus be able to recover as desired.
First of all, the patient must avoid touching his head at all costs (especially the area in which he has been operated on), having to sleep in a position in which he does not support that area.
You will also have to take into account that he will not be able to carry out any type of physical exercise for a period of 15 days, since if he does, he may increase the risk of infection in the treated area. Once this time has elapsed, the patient will be able to gradually exercise, starting with aerobic exercises, for example.
The scalp, being a very sensitive area, should not be exposed to the sun until it recovers and heals completely.
To conclude, after the first 3 post-operative days, the intervened area can be washed with shampoo and warm water. The area may not be aggressively manipulated. One month after the operation, you can return to your normal hair washing routine.
