Alopecia areata. What is it and how to treat it?

Hair loss is more common than we think so we should not be alarmed in any case.  In times of stress, if we see this fall emphasized, we may be suffering from alopecia areata.  What is it and how to treat it?  We explain it to you below.

What is alopecia areata?

Alopecia areata is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks the hair follicles.  It causes hair to fall out completely in patches, usually about the size of a quarter.

This fall is more common on the scalp, although it can occur anywhere on the body.

The most likely ages for it to occur are usually in adults between 20 and 30 years of age.

Main origin of its outbreaks: stress

Although the origin of this type of alopecia is autoimmune, it is known that stress is the main cause of these outbreaks.

Still, some people suffer from alopecia areata, and apparently the main cause may not be stress.

Does lost hair recover?

The vast majority of cases of alopecia areata are mild and the hair usually recovers easily, but there are more severe variants where hair loss can be irreversible.

The more widespread and severe the disease, the more difficult it will be to recover lost hair.  Therefore, it is important to immediately put yourself in the hands of a specialist who recommends the most appropriate treatment in each case.  It is not advisable to use products for hair loss without the approval of a specialist, since it is possible that they do not solve the problem or even worsen it.
